Mehmet Özhaseki was born in Kayseri in 1957. After his elementary education at Kayseri, he went to Hacettepe University, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Because of the circumstances, he had to call of his education there and started Istanbul University, Faculty of Law and gratuated as a lawyer. He made his internship at the Courthouse of Kayseri and after that he did not work as a lawyer again. He started to lead the family business about textile until 1994. 

After 1980, about 10 years he served at foundations and associations on social purposes. He realized the first communal kitchen in Kayseri and some fellowship activities for the students. 

In 1994, March 27, he was elected as the mayor of Melikgazi Municipality. In 1999, April 18, he became the mayor of Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality. In 2009, March 29, he was elected as the mayor for the 4th time which is also a record of Kayseri. 

Özhaseki, who is the manager of Union of Historical Towns for 4 years, is married with 4 children and speaks English and Arabic.
