Arkitera Architecture Center is an independent architecture organization with the aim of a qualified environment of architectural practice in Turkey and to equal the Turkish architectural quality to modern countries’ level. Differing from world’s architecture centers which exist with supports from state, local authorities or with various funds as non-governmental organizations, Arkitera is an organization without any support from any development. The center’s all events are planned concerning the needs and potentials of Turkish architecture environment.
After preparations between June – October 2000, Arkitera Architecture Center started its first online publication Arkitera.com which was then followed by other events and publications. From the day it was founded, Arkitera Architecture Center gave support to various projects, cooperated with sector’s companies, institutes and universities in architectural events and has always been a meeting platform that enables to discuss physical environment matters and urban conflicts. In July 2001 Arkitera Diyalog, in September 2002 Arkitera Platform and in 2003 Arkimeet meetings were launched and Arkitera Architecture Database was opened on October 6th, 2003. The 1st Istanbul Festival of Architecture was held between October 4th – 9th, 2004. ArkiPARC, which was organized with the motto “Dialogue for Urban Quality” for the first time between October 15th – 17th, 2008 is the last series of events of the center.
Arkitera Architecture Center performs all of its events and publications with sponsorships, cooperating with universities and institutions. Having more than a single supporter makes the center maintain its independency.
